Process

The material side of the work is personal. Max's father, in Ukraine, has been involved in making the sculptures from the beginning — he found the people who understand casting, patina, and sculptural production, and father and son still work together on every bronze and fine art resin work.

They develop the patinas, colours, surfaces and methods as shared material research. The anthracite patina used for Drim and Nite came from that research; so did the green of Swim. A figure leaves the foundry raw, bright and rough, and becomes itself slowly — wax, heat, chemistry, and hands.

Bronze carries family, distance, trust, and a connection to Ukraine.
